A discussion thread on BlueSky inspired an examination of the quip in
the subject line which is usually attributed to the brilliant and
prolific Hungarian mathematician Paul Erdős. The remark has also been
attributed to the prominent Hungarian mathematicians Alfréd Rényi and
Paul Turán.

"The New Yale Book of Quotations" has an excellent citation from
November 1987 that attributes the quote to Paul Erdős.

Now, I have found scans of a 1971 article by Erdős in which he
credited Alfréd Rényi.
