1892 Illinois State Journal 5 Oct. 1/6 (GenealogyBank)  The pupils will be massed in the yard, and will go through the pretty ceremony of saluting the flag and repeating the Bellamy pledge of allegiance to the flag and the republic.

NOTE: This citation's reference to the "Bellamy pledge of allegiance" is erroneous, as Barry Popik has discovered that Francis Bellamy could not have originated the text of the iconic U.S. Pledge of Allegiance.
