'A source of or resource for imaginary events or circumstances.'

I've read this usage countless times in the past, I don't know, ten years.
Or more. The definition could probably be tweaked:

 ;

These stories [viz., medieval romances] were a place for women to explore
their desires, free from the idea that they should be chaste.

>From the same article:

"And while there are fairy lovers who are kind, gentle and courteous,
medieval audiences also thrilled to the idea of a brooding fairy
shadow-daddy."

Why didn't they tell me in Medieval Lit?:

"A shadow daddy...is a trope that is very popular recently in romance
fantasy books. A shadow daddy, is OLD like 500 years+ but looks young, has
scars and tattoos, usually darker skin and dark hair, has shadow powers aka
[sic] the name, like can control darkness or shadows, is HOT, male an[d]
morally grey and has *issues* and alway falls in love with the main female
character."

Kind of like a stud sugar daddy with powers instead of cash. "Aka" is good
too. The genre is called "romantasy."
