Good news from DARE! Volume VI has just shipped from the Harvard University
Press warehouse to bookstores across the country. It should be available
near you in the next few days. But if volumes of DARE are on your holiday
giving list (or on your own wish list), why not avail yourself of a coupon
for 20% off any of the six volumes? You can find it here:

http://www.dare.wisc.edu/**sites/dare.wisc.edu/files/**DARENEWS15_4.pdf<http://www.dare.wisc.edu/sites/dare.wisc.edu/files/DARENEWS15_4.pdf>

on the last page of the current issue of the DARE Newsletter.

Volume VI has hundreds of contrastive maps (so you can see, for instance,
the distributions of hero, hoagie, grinder, sub, torpedo, and Cuban all in
one place); "social" maps showing contrasts by age, sex, race, education
and community type; the full index to regional, usage, and etymological
labels in the five volumes of text; the DARE Questionnaire; and all of the
responses to 430 of the questions asked during the original fieldwork. It's
a great teaching tool and a fun book to browse.

Happy Holidays!
Joan

P.S.
Dan Chiasson has just listed DARE V as one of the best books of 2012 on The
New Yorker's Page-Tuner blog: http://www.newyorker.com/**
