Computational Linguistics position, University of Otago

Applications are invited for a Junior Research Fellow (Grade I) in
computational linguistics in the Department of Computer Science, the
University of Otago, New Zealand.  The position is full-time but
appointment on a part-time basis would be considered.  The successful
applicant will work on a one year project to build a bilingual
sentence interpretation and generation system for English and Maori.
The aim of the project is to build a bilingual natural language
interface to a database, which can interpret simple questions and
statements in both languages within a particular domain, and generate
suitable answers and responses.

Applicants should be graduates, with a good BSc or BA, with experience
in computer programming, and some knowledge either of formal
linguistics or of the Maori language (preferably both).  The
successful candidate will ideally have some experience of working with
natural language processing systems, and knowledge of the Lisp or
Prolog computer languages.  S/he will be highly motivated and
interested in the project, have a willingness to learn, and will be
able to work independently, liaising with a team of researchers.
