Austronesian Colleagues,
As you will know by now, the dates for 10-ICAL (Tenth International
Conference on Austronesian Linguistics) have been set for 3-6 January
2006, in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines. There has been some
discussion about the suitability of those dates. If there is enough (strong)
sentiment that they should be moved, we can do such. I am soliciting your
input now on which of the three dates below would be the most suitable
from your point of view.
Please reply to this email ( at 10-ical at sil.org) by the end of this month,
February 2004, with your dates of preference in the subject line. If you
would also like to include a rationale for your choice in the text of the
message, that might prove helpful.
The three choices are:
(1) 3-6 January 2006, NO CHANGE
(2) 10-13 January 2006, CHANGE
(3) 17-20 January 2006, CHANGE
Reasons to consider changing from 3-6 January 2006:
--The current dates overlap with the Annual Meeting of the Linguistic
Society of America, 5-8 January 2006.
--It may be difficult to make flight reservations and travel around the
New Year's holiday.
Reasons to keep 3-6 January 2006:
--The dates have already been publicized.
--These dates make it easier for many academicians from the Northern
Hemisphere to attend 10-ICAL without missing classes.
Reason to consider 10-13 January 2006
--It is past the worst of the holiday travel season.
Reason to consider 17-20 January 2006
--Airfares may be some cheaper for some participants.
Thank you very much for making your preference known by the end of this
month, February 2004.
Mabuhay from Manila,
Steve Quakenbush
for the 10-ICAL Organizing Committee
