TENTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AUSTRONESIAN LINGUISTICS (10-ICAL)
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, PALAWAN, PHILIPPINES, 17-20 JANUARY 2006
NEWS ITEMS & REMINDERS:
(1) The deadline for receiving the discounted early registration rates for
10-ICAL is 1 November. Early registration rates are $125 for regular
participants, and $75 for students and/or Philippine residents. After 1
November 05, the rates will be $160 and $100, respectively. Please find
these and other details, and register on-line at:
http://www.sil.org/asia/philippines/ical.html . Many thanks to the 100 plus
participants who have already registered.
(2) The Legend Hotel has reserved a block of 80 rooms for 10-ICAL
participants. After those 80 rooms are filled, the Legend will assist in
reserving accommodations at comparable hotels in Puerto Princesa. Those
wishing to stay at the conference site for greater convenience are advised
to contact the Legend Hotel reservations officer as soon as possible at:
angel_l at legendpalawan.com.ph
(3) 10-ICAL participants will need to arrive in Puerto Princesa City on or
before 16 January 2006 in order to particpate fully. A reception is planned
for the evening of 16 January. Those requiring overnight accommodations in
Manila on the way to or from Puerto Princesa may arrange for those at the
Mabuhay Manor in Pasay City through the same Legend Hotel reservations
officer: angel_l at legendpalawan.com.ph
(4) 166 abstracts have been accepted for presentation at 10-ICAL. Four
parallel sessions will run throughout the four days, except for the plenary
lectures on the first and last mornings. A tentative schedule for all papers
will be posted to the 10-ICAL webpage later in November, along with detailed
instructions for presenters regarding handouts, audiovisual equipment, etc.
(5) 40 individuals have indicated on their registration forms an interest in
the field trip to Tabon Caves on 21 January. It is likely we will need to
limit the number to somewhere around this figure. The day-long excursion to
the Underground River and the half-day Island Hopping excursions arranged by
the Legend Hotel are also highly recommended. Payment for the field trip or
Hotel-sponsored excursions may be made at the conference site. Again, more
details will be posted later in November.
(6) Three airlines now serve Puerto Princesa City: Philippine Airlines and
Air Philippines have morning flights. Asian Spirit has an afternoon flight.
Links for these airlines are on the 10-ICAL webpage. Even with three flights
a day, planes could fill up on 16 and 21 January. So...
Those who intend to participate in 10-ICAL but have not yet registered or
made reservations for travel and accommodations, please be advised to do so
as soon as possible.
MABUHAY!
