The Linguistics Discipline, School of Humanities and Social Science,
University of Newcastle, invites applications for a continuing (i.e.
tenure-track) position of Lecturer in Linguistics.
This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding linguist to
contribute to the research strengths of the University’s dynamic and
growing Linguistics Discipline and provide teaching input across the
range of Linguistics courses. You will also contribute to research
supervision in the discipline. Applicants from diverse subdisciplines of
linguistics will be considered. The capacity to teach across a diverse
range of courses in both general and applied linguistics is highly
desirable. A PhD is essential.

Responsibilities:
• You will be responsible to your supervisor, the Head of the School of
Humanities and Social Science.
• You will enhance the research profile of the discipline by applying
for external funding, conducting research, publishing and supervising
research higher degree students.
• You will contribute to quality teaching and learning in the discipline
through development, delivery, and coordination of undergraduate and
postgraduate courses.
Selection Criteria:
• A PhD in linguistics (awarded, or satisfied all requirements for
award).
• University teaching experience in linguistics.
• Capacity to teach across a range of the Discipline’s existing
offerings in both general and applied linguistics, and to develop new
courses in the future in these areas.
• Demonstrated capacity, relative to opportunity, to produce high
quality research publications in linguistics.
• Demonstrated capacity, relative to opportunity, to enhance existing
research strengths within the Discipline.
• Demonstrated capacity, relative to opportunity, to apply for and/or
obtain competitive research grants in linguistics
• Capacity to supervise research higher degree projects, including in
applied linguistics.
• Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with colleagues in teaching
and research.
• Capacity to conduct distance/online delivery of teaching.
Conditions and Benefits:
• Academic Level B - $76,229 to $ 90,523 per annum.
• Contributory superannuation is a benefit of employment plus generous
employer contribution of 17%.
