The School of Culture, History and Language is the focus of research and teaching in Asian and Pacific humanities, social sciences and languages and seeks to build excellence in understanding and capability in engaging with the Asia and Pacific region. The Opportunity

CHL is seeking to appoint a scholar to make a substantial contribution to its Indonesian language program, who has a track record of field research and high-quality publications on Indonesia. The ANU Indonesian language program has a distinguished record of teaching and innovation, and links to the ANU’s strengths at the College level on Indonesian history, politics, economics, languages, society and culture.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  1.  Make a substantial contribution to the teaching and development of the School’s undergraduate Indonesian language program, including teaching on-campus at the ANU, developing materials, and building student cohorts to enhance the reputation and innovation of ANU programs in Indonesian language.
  2.  Conduct research in an area of theoretical and practical significance on Indonesia which contributed to one or more of the programs in the School of Culture, History and Language.
  3.  Participate actively in the interdisciplinary activities of the School of Culture History and Language, including supervision of postgraduate students and other related administration and outreach activities.

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment of five years commencing late 2021 or early 2022.  The successful candidate will begin teaching into the Indonesian language program in semester 1, 2022.

As the Indonesian language courses are taught in-person on ANU campus, the successful candidate would be required to be based in Canberra by early 2022.
