Dear Alex and Colleagues,
Thank you again, Alex, for your heartfelt dedication to the ACD and for sharing Bob Blust’s trust in you as its steward. It’s truly inspiring to see the passion you bring to carrying forward his vision. However, I believe the core challenge we face as a community lies not in celebrating past trust, but in how we can collectively advance the ACD’s scholarly impact moving forward.
While Blust’s legacy is monumental, clinging too tightly to it risks confining us to a gilded cage of past achievements, beautiful though they may be. I propose we step out from that shelter together, embracing a collaborative future where the ACD evolves through peer-reviewed contributions from all of us. I’d be thrilled to contribute myself, and I believe that by supporting one another, we can build a shared world of discovery that honors Blust’s vision while forging new paths. A small step, like distinguishing peer-reviewed entries from unpublished ones, could ensure the ACD remains a living, breathing tool for future research. I know it’s tough to take on more work, Alex, but this could be a way to move forward together—no rush, just something to consider.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, Alex, and from the wider community, on how we can make this vision a reality. Let’s honor Blust’s legacy not by preserving it in amber, but by forging a path toward new discoveries together.
Warm regards,
Yuko
