Dear Professor HIlden,

During my Fulbright in the English Department at the University of Khartoum
1989-90, an instructor was writing a master's thesis on Arabic-English error
analysis (actually, at the time I met her, she was collecting data).  I can't
recall her name, but she was German and married to a Sudanese and had a
compound surname.  Whether the thesis is available I don't know.
I hope this helps, even though chances of finding it are slim.
