Subject: Transcribing ayn
Isn't it just wild how many different ways people transcribe ayn?! In the
last day's postings there were ' : @ 3 and <, to which add the fairly
widely used 9 and `, plus my own favorite &. In everyday usage there is
also simply a, especially after the vowel a, as in Saad, Baath, Baalbek.
Just an observation -- no call for standardization!
