No need to talk to you how very interesting is the phenomenon of diglossia
in Arabic. The other day Gabe Bokor's Translation Journal
(<http://accurapid.com/journal>http://accurapid.com/journal -- A Web
publication for translators, by translators, about translators and
translation, No.4, Jan 2000) published my article on that topic (in
connection with the Arab folk tales).
