SUMMER LANGUAGE INSTITUTE

Intensive Business Arabic (325-409/410): Language, Culture & Communication
8 credits
This sequence is offered to students and members of the community who have
completed two years of Arabic and wish to continue Arabic for career and
professional purposes. Students who successfully complete this course will
be able to perform well in a variety of situations, both social and
business. (Rammuny/Staff)
Intensive Colloquial Levantine Arabic (325-417/418) 6 credits
This sequence provides extensive oral and communicative practice based on
situational dialogues as used by native speakers of Jerusalem, Amman,
Damascus, and Beirut. The goal is to develop the ability to communicate
with native speakers of Levantine Arabic with some ease. No prior
knowledge of Arabic is required. (Rammuny/Staff)
Tuition and fees
Summer tuition and fees will be assessed at the following rates and are
subject to change:
Michigan Residents Non-Residents
U-M Undergraduates
Lower Division 1,583 4,940
Upper Division (guest 1,784 5,287
or non U-M students)
U-M Graduate Students 2,898 5,843
Not-For-Credit/Program Fee Option:
Students who do not require a transcript from the University of Michigan
may apply to study intensive Persian or Turkish on a not-for-credit basis.
Credits will not be generated and will not be transferable with this
enrollment option. Not-for-Credit students will pay a program fee of
$1,700.00 regardless of academic level or residency status, and will
receive a Certificate of Attendance upon completion.
Every attempt will be made to award eligible students fellowships or
program fee (depending on enrollment status) based upon individual need;
FLAS Fellowship funds may be applied to tuition and fees. To be
considered for financial aid, applicants must fill out the SLI application
and financial aid transcript. Each application will be reviewed
individually to determine partial or full tuition awards. The application
deadline is April 1, 2000.
