Someone directed me to the Sharq AlAwsat article on the current session of
the language academy in Cairo at:

which contains a quote by Shawqi Dayf.  I know I should know, but can
someone fill me in on exactly who he is, what his background is, and what
his status in Egypt and Arab society is?  Thanks.
