Subject: North African Sword terminology query

Dear Sirs,
I am working on a project concerning the swords of North Africa, in
particular the kaskara of the Sudan and the takouba of the Tuareg tribes in
the Sahara. I am hoping to determine the literal meaning and etymology of
these terms.
Also, there are often etched inscriptions on the blades with Arabic form
script termed 'thuluth'. I have also seen similar script termed 'Kufic'.
Can you please help me understand these terms as well?
I very much look forward to your response and thank you very much for any
assistance, Sincerely, Jim McDougall
