Subject: Qaaf to Jiim Query
Does anyone know why the "qaaf" pushes forward into a "jeem" in certain
instances in the Gulf? It doesn't seem predictable, or is it? Authors
have said, preceeding or following [-back] vowels or when a consonant
lies between one of these vowels and the notorious
uvular-turned-affricate. But in environments that check off all these
requirements, we also see the "qaaf" go to the usual voiced velar
[g]. What's the deal here? Historical influences? Media? Biology? If
anyone may have leads, please let me know.
