I'm a graduate student at
Stanford in Middle East history, augmenting my funding by doing an Arabic
consulting project on the side. I'm looking into Arabic-English and
English-Arabic machine translation software. I've seen the commercially
available packages (L&H/Apptek, al-Naqel, al-Mutarjim al-Arabey, Sakhr) but
I was wondering if you know of any universities that have strong research
programs in Arabic MT. Or perhaps there are other commercial packages out
there that you might know about. Just to be clear, I'm not talking about
dictionaries or computer assisted translation, I'm talking about something
that has a syntactical component.
