Subject: the Phoenix

A colleague of mine is researching the myth of the phoenix, and he
finds refernces to an origin in Arabic (the word 9anqaa').  He would
like to know if there is a myth associated with this legendary bird
in Arabic, and if anyone knows of any mideaval sources for this myth.
