Couldn't any unicode font that covers Latin and IPA extensions serve as
a
transliteration font? All that would be needed is to hack out a keyboard
layout (it's just XML, right?) to make the appropriate characters easily
accessible.

I have mostly abandoned using the MAC to do anything connected with
Arabic because trying to get Arabs in the Arab World to use any files
created on the MAC is a frustrating and mostly fruitless time sink.
