addenda to former remarks on how to transfer Wintel MS Word text in  
Arabic to the Mac platform with the help of Mellel :

To read a Wintel MS Word text in Arabic, it is not even necessary to  
have it saved as .rtf in order to read it with Mellel, provided you can  
dispense with the text formatting.
Upon receiving the file, open it with Mac MS Word, save it as "unicode  
text", import it into Mellel as text and specify that the encoding is  
Unicode. Voilà !
