Assistant Professor of Arabic

The University of Washington, the Department of Near
Eastern Languages and Civilization, has been
authorized to make a full-time, tenure-track
appointment in Arabic, at the rank of Assistant
Professor, and invites applications for the position.
Employment will commence Autumn quarter 2004. Duties
will include teaching and overseeing courses in the
Arabic program, providing pedagogical and intellectual
leadership in the department, and conducting research
into aspects of Arabic linguistics and/or second
language acquisition as it applies to Arabic.
Prospective applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant
field and at least two years of experience teaching
Arabic in a proficiency-oriented program. Native or
near-native competency in both Arabic and English is
required. Salary will be commensurate with
qualifications and experience. To apply, please send
an up-to-date curriculum vitae along with a letter of
application describing research interests, teaching
experience and language ability, one or two sample
publications, and three letters of recommendation to:
