Subject:Abdel Sattar Nassir's Stories in Serb(ocroat)ian
Dear coleagues,
Abdel Sattar Nassir (1947), the short stories writer from Iraq, after
being
imprisoned and tortured in 1975 for his story Our Master the Caliph
(sayyiduna al-xaliifa), managed to escape from Iraq in October 1999 and
has
been living in Jordan ever since. During this period of time Nassir has
published 14 new books between Amman, Beirut and Cairo, which makes the
number of his already published books nearly 50. A compilation
containing 22
of the best short stories and 20 prose miniatures written by this
prominent
Iraqi author eventually came out this month in Belgrade, by Geopoetika
publishing house, on over 320 pages (ISBN 86-7666-027-1). The book
includes
an extensive afterword (44 pg's) on the author's idiosyncratic literary
style and his exciting and sometimes controversial life experiences,
starting from the late sixties till today. The title of the book is
Najsrecniji covek na svetu (=The Happiest Man in the World -- after one
of
the stories: 'as3ad rajul fi al-3aalam). The selection, translation and
the
study on the author's work are mine.
Regards,
Srpko Lestaric
