The Arabic Jumhuuriyyat al-Sudan al-Diymuqraatiyya was the older name
that dictator Ja'faar Numeiri gave to the country during his military
rule (1969-1985). However, after he was ousted out of power through a
Popular Uprising, the country retained its name: Jumhuuriyyat
al-Sudan. Although some elements in the current dictatorial regime
(that also came to power through a military coup in June 30,
1989) tried to make another change in the name of the country, their
attempts have been futile.
I hope this helps.

The PNA currently uses the Israeli Shekel, which has both Hebrew and
Arabic writing on it. In Hebrew, the plural is something like
Shekliim, while the Arabs say shawaakil.
