Tenure-track position in Arabic Language at the rank of Assistant
Professor, position funding is pending budgetary approval, to begin
September 1, 2006.
Candidates should have completed their Ph.D by the appointment date
in Arabic, Applied Linguistics, Foreign Language Education with
specialization in Arabic or closely related discipline. The
successful applicant must be able to teach Modern Standard Arabic at
all levels, and help students learn to use MSA in the ways it is used
in the Arabic-speaking world. An active research profile is required
and research interests should be relevant to foreign language
acquisition and/or applied linguistics. Relevant course work in
language pedagogy and second language acquisition at the College/
University level a must. The person hired would be expected to assist
with the teaching and coordination of multi section beginning and
intermediate undergraduate courses, and to develop new courses,
especially at advanced levels, to meet the needs of heritage
learners, non-native speakers who wish to use Arabic in various
academic and professional contexts, and those who wish to study the
Qu'ran or use primary sources. OPI certification, or willingness to
achieve certification within three years of appointment, is also
necessary. University policy requires that a background security
check will be conducted.
