[moderator's note: I was contacted by a faculty member from North
Carolina State who said he hoped potential applicants for this job
were not put off by the 'requirement' that they be able to teach
another language. He encourages all potential applicants with a PhD
in Arabic to apply, regardless of their knowledge of other languages.]
NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY, Department of Foreign Languages and
Literatures invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Modern
Arabic Literature and Culture. PhD, native or near-native fluency in
Arabic and another foreign language (preferably another Middle
Eastern language) required. Tenure-track appointment, starting August
2006. Areas of specialization should include Modern Arabic literature
and language. In addition, the candidate needs to be able to teach
another foreign language with strong preference given to candidates
with specialization in another Middle Eastern language. We are
seeking candidates with a strong commitment to research,
undergraduate and graduate teaching, and service, and an interest in
teaching all levels of Arabic and another foreign language. Possible
courses: 1) Advanced Readings in Arabic and Arabic Literature; 2)
first 2 years of another foreign language; 3) Literature in
