Assistant Professor of Modern Arabic

The School of Languages, Cultures and World Affairs at the College of
Charleston invites applications for a full-time tenure-track
Assistant Professorship in Modern Arabic plus a relevant
complementary discipline to begin Fall 2007. The area of
specialization beyond Arabic is open. We seek a candidate who will
help expand our current Arabic program and contribute to
interdisciplinary teaching and research. The successful candidate
will teach courses in Arabic language and literature at all levels
(introductory, intermediate and advanced) as well as a related
discipline in the humanities and/or social sciences (e.g., religion,
sociology, anthropology, history, art, archaeology, politics,
communications, law, etc.). Candidates should have native or near
native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic; A Ph.D. by August 2007 is
required, either in Arabic or the related disciplinary field. A
minimum requirement will additionally be an advanced degree or
certification in Arabic of at least 18 graduate hours. Prelimina
