The School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs at the College
of Charleston invites applications for a full-time tenure-track

successful candidate will teach courses in Arabic language and
literature at all levels (introductory, intermediate and advanced;
teaching load 3/3). Candidates should have native or near native
fluency in Modern Standard Arabic; a Ph.D. by August 2008 is

with a degree in a related discipline in the humanities and/or social
sciences (e.g., religion, sociology, anthropology, history, art,
archaeology, political science) will have the opportunity to teach
regularly in that discipline. Building on its historic strength (a
two year language sequence required of all students and over 60 full
time faculty teac
hing foreign languages), the College of Charleston has created a new,
separate School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs, which
provides students with exceptional curricular programs in foreign
languages and area studies. Preliminary interviews will be held at
the MESA meeting, November 17-20, 2007. Applications should include
(1) letter of application detailing experience/preparation; (2)
teaching and research philosophy, (3) curriculum vitae; (4)
transcripts: (5) teaching materials and evaluations, if applicable;
(6) sample publication; and (7) three recent letters of
recommendation. Applications should be sent by mail to: Dr.
Abdellatif Attafi, c/o School of Languages, Cultures and World
Affairs, College of Charleston, 66 George Street, Charleston, SC
29424. The College of Charleston is an Affirmative Action, Equal
Opportunity Employer and strongly encourages women and minorities to
apply. Screening begins immediately, and will continue until the
position is filled.
