GRINNELL COLLEGE. Two-year (renewable for a third year) term position  
in Arabic, starting Fall 2008. Assistant Professor with Ph.D.  
preferred; Instructor (ABD) possible. Native or near-native fluency  
in Modern Standard Arabic and successful language teaching experience  
required. Scholarly specialization and related departmental  
affiliation are open.  Grinnell College is a highly selective  
undergraduate liberal arts college.  The College’s curriculum is  
founded on a strong advising system and close student-faculty  
interaction, with few college-wide requirements beyond the completion  
of a major.  The teaching load of five courses over two semesters  
will include introductory and intermediate language courses plus one  
or more course(s) in the candidate's area of expertise.  
Interdisciplinary topics or perspectives are particularly welcome.  
Candidates should be interested in and open to collaboration with  
other colleges to enhance Arabic instruction in our region.  In  
letters of application, candidates should discuss their interest in  
developing as a teacher and scholar in an undergraduate, liberal arts  
college that emphasizes close student-faculty interaction.  They also  
should discuss what they can contribute to efforts to cultivate a  
wide diversity of people and perspectives, a core value of Grinnell  
College.
