Position Description to be Posted:
Michigan State University seeks to fill a tenure-track position in
Arabic language learning and teaching, especially to support and
provide leadership to its Arabic language program in the Department of
Linguistics and Germanic, Slavic, Asian and African Languages in the
College of Arts & Letters beginning August 16, 2009. This position
will be at the rank of assistant professor (Ph.D. in hand by August
16, 2009). We seek candidates with primary interests in the teaching
and learning of Arabic language and culture. It is anticipated that
the successful candidate will become part of a growing research
community in second language studies (www.msu.edu/user/sls) and will
take advantage of research opportunities through the Center for
Language Education and Research (CLEAR, http://clear.msu.edu) and
related Centers and initiatives. Central to this position will be
working on the new Arabic Flagship Program housed at Michigan State
University.
We welcome applicants whose research would especially benefit from
collaborative opportunities in an interdisciplinary work environment.

of these research areas is appropriate for the applicant's own
background and future direction,
* writing sample,
* statement of research interests,
* statement of teaching philosophy,
* three letters of-reference.
