Subject:Presentation at Edinburgh Festival 2009

  Dear All,

  Assalamu Alaikum & Ramadan Kareem

Hope my message finds you in the best of health.

As this is the time when the "Athens of the North" (Edinburgh) is the
busiest tourist city in the UK, I would like to bring to your
attention a
presentation/Visual gallery I am delivering as part of the Edinburgh
  Festival 2009 (The Fringe).

Presentation: *You already Speak Arabic! Islam’s Influence On
European
  Languages *
  Date/Time: Sat 29th Aug (1530-1700)
Location: Edinburgh Central Mosque, further details<http://islamfestival.wordpress.co
+m/venue/
  Speaker: Mourad Diouri<http://www.e-arabic.com/e-arabic-learning-portal-ealp/mourad-diouri

Presentation: The highly interactive, inspiring, and eye-opening
talk aims
to provide an informative cultural, historical and linguistic
insight and
understanding of a collection of commonly-used English words of Arabic
origins. The Arabic language has had a great and long-lasting impact
on many
European languages, namely Spanish and English. This presentation
also aims
to act as a reminder to us all (Muslim and non-Muslim) of the many
incredible contributions of Islam to the West.
The talk will also challenge the audience (especially English
speakers)
that we all have a common language and we all speak Arabic to some
extent.

The event has already attracted media attention with the BBC Arabic
Xtra<http://www.bbc.co.uk/arabic/indepth/bbc_extra.shtmlrunning a live
radio show on Thurs 27th, 1300. As an invited guest speaker,
I will be discussing the Edinburgh Festival and specifically the
topic of
  'Islam’s Influence on European languages'.

For those of you who are not based in Edinburgh or unable to attend,
the
presentation material and other resources will be available online
to browse
and download at the eArabic Learning Portal <http://www.e-arabic.com/islams-contribution-to-european-languages

  Looking forward to seeing you

  Mourad
