This looks like a convincing explanation. It would benefit from  
supporting evidence that it's the Maghribi dialect, e.g., words (place  
names) like Quadalquivir /waad al-kibiir/ that are clearly not derived  
from Middle Eastern dialect (a supposed false izafet would sound / 
waadii l-kibiir/) and certainly not Classical Arabic with /al-waadii l- 
kabiir/. Modern Moroccan has /l-waad l-kbiir/ or, with a false  
izafet, /waad l-kbiir/. It is obvious that  /waad l-kbiir/ and /waad  
al-kibiir/ are closest. The operative difference here is /waadii/  
(Middle Eastern) versus /waad/ (North African).
