Subject:Arabic idiom query

This was also a common idiom in the Persian of Iran, a circumlocution designed to lessen 
the shock or morbidity of someone's passing, by representing it as a lengthening of
the life of the person to whom the news is being reported (second person formal is
more typical, I think).  As such, there is probably no reason to use anything but a
second-person pronoun there.
   Folaani (mord o) `omr-ash raa be shomaa daad
   So-and-so (died and) gave his years of life to you.
