The Department of Comparative Literature at UC Berkeley, in conjunction
with the Department of Near Eastern Studies, is searching for an
assistant or associate professor of modern Arabic literature. The
successful candidate will be a dynamic teacher of undergraduate and
graduate courses with cross-disciplinary focus. Requirements are a
completed Ph.D. by the time of employment, a near-native command of
modern Arabic, and a demonstrated ability to work in one or more
additional literatures relevant to the study of modern Arabic literature
in a comparative context. A foundational knowledge of the classical
Arabic tradition is expected. Applications should include letter of
application and CV, three letters of recommendation, and a writing
sample of no more than 25 pages and must be postmarked on or before
November 1, 2011. Late applications cannot be accepted. No electronic
