The Department of Classics, Modern Languages and Linguistics invites
applications for one extended-term appointment in Modern Semitic Languages.
Applicants must have a PhD or ABD status in Arabic Studies, Arabic
Linguistics, or a closely related field, with the proven ability to teach
and/or supervise courses in modern Semitic languages. The ideal candidate
will have previous experience in successful language coordination, and
competency in Modern Arabic and at least one other Semitic language. The
successful candidate will support the revision of the curriculum; help
address the shortage of highly specialized FT and PT faculty in the area of
current language teaching methodology; present and discuss relevant
literature and contemporary cultural issues; and supervise PT faculty and
support them in their pedagogical planning and execution.
Applications should consist of a cover letter, a current curriculum vitae,
a statement of teaching philosophy/interests, and evidence of teaching
effectiveness. Candidates should arrange for three letters of reference to

This position is subject to budgetary approval and need, and is full-time,
normally at the rank of Lecturer beginning July 1, 2012. Under the
provisions of the current CUFA Collective Agreement, individuals are
initially appointed for a three-year period with the possibility of
re-appointment in accordance with article 12.04 d.
