4th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ARABIC LANGUAGE & LITERATURE (ICALL 2013)
Teaching Arabic Language & Literature for Specific Purposes
DATE: 15th-17th May 2013
VENUE: CAC, IIUM
LOCATION: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Introduction
The methods of teaching and learning Arabic are continuously developing.
The teaching of Arabic for specific purposes is one of the new aspects of
teaching Arabic that is seeing great demands and needs. These needs can be
professional, or simply to learn about the ‘other’ and their culture and
their world view or for some communicative purposes for certain groups.
Due to growing interest in the politics and socio-economy of the Arab
world in addition to the existing strong relation between the Islamic
countries, the needs for learning Arabic have also increased
significantly. There are those who are interested in learning Arabic for
self-fulfillment purposes, such as to know the meaning of Quran, and there
also those who want to know Arabic for their professional and job
requirements. In addition to that, the influx of pilgrims to perform the
Hajj is also a factor in teaching them Arabic to manage their affairs
effectively during the Hajj.
Therefore, we do see that there is a growing demand and interest in
learning Arabic for specific purposes. In light of this observation, the
Department of Arabic Language and Literature is planning to focus on this
particular theme for its fourth International Conference.
The objectives of this conference are:
To highlight on the theoretical aspects of teaching Arabic for specific
purposes.
To focus on the methods of teaching Arabic for specific purposes.
To benefit from the latest experience, research and findings of
practitioners in this field and have them applied on the context of
teaching Arabic.

To highlight on the traditional perspectives on the teaching language for
specific purposes.
