*ARIZONA IN JORDAN*
8 weeks in Jordan with the University of Arizona
Summer 2013 dates: June 2 to July 27

*Application deadline: February 24, 2013*

The Arizona in Jordan program is an *eight-week summer program* based in
the northern city of Irbid, Jordan’s second largest city and a
quintessential Middle Eastern university town, bustling with cafes, shops,
restaurants, and nightlife. Set in the northern highlands near the Syrian,
Israeli, and Palestinian borders, Irbid is an hour's drive from the capital
city of Amman. It offers the perfect milieu for experiencing
Arabic-language and Middle Eastern studies immersion.

Arizona in Jordan courses are held on the campus of Yarmouk University, one
of Jordan’s largest public universities, with almost 30,000 students.
Classes are taught by a combination of University of Arizona and Yarmouk
University faculty. In addition to the coursework, students participate in
several academic excursions to sites such as the Nabatean ruins of Petra,
the Bedouin desert valley of Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and the cities of Amman
and Aqaba. There will also be outings to important historical sites, such
as the eastern desert castles, Ajloun, Jerash and Umm Qais.

*Course offerings:*

MSA: intermediate, advanced
Jordanian colloquial: beginning, intermediate
Middle East Studies: Ethnography of the Middle East and Jordan
