LECTURER IN ARABIC LANGUAGE

The Department of Near Eastern Studies at the University of Michigan
invites applicants for a full-time lecturer position in Arabic Language, to
begin September, 2013. Teaching load will be determined by departmental
needs, but is expected to be two courses per semester. Applicants should
have native or near-native fluency in Standard Arabic, a dialect of Arabic,
and English, and experience in teaching various levels of language courses,
at the postsecondary level, using a proficiency-based, communicative
methodology. Minimum requirement is an M.A. and formal training in Applied
Linguistics and Foreign Language Teaching. Salary is competitive,
commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a full
benefits package.

taught and materials used), names and contact information for three people
who have agreed to provide letters if requested and a teaching portfolio
including a statement of teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations and a
video of the candidate teaching
Review of the applications will begin immediately and will continue until
the position is filled.
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between
the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains
and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other
terms and conditions of employment.
Background Screening
The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates
upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party
administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks will be
performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
