Dear All,
I am pleased to inform you of the publication of Jurji Zaidan’s
Contributions to Modern Arab Thought and Literature. This volume consists
of essays commissioned by the Zaidan Foundation for a Symposium sponsored
by the Library of Congress and the Zaidan Foundation held at the Library of
Congress on June 5 2012. The twelve essays were prepared by a group of
eminent scholars in literature, history and other disciplines from the
Universities of Columbia, Harvard, Pennsylvania, Toronto, UCLA, the
Sorbonne (Paris), Erlangen-Nurnberg (Germany), St Joseph (Beirut) and the
Library of Alexandria (Egypt) working on the Nahda or Arab awakening of the
late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and, in particular, on Jurji
Zaidan’s leading role in this movement. For more details see the attached
