Hello,
 
My name is Danny Ammon and I just joined this list.
 
I am a tse:ning-xwe/South Fork Hupa.  I teach Math and Hupa Language at Hoopa Valley High School.
 
I began learning Hupa around 1988 or so.  I learned most of my language doing a "Master/Apprentice" program with a fluent speaker Calvin Carpenter.  I have been able to study with other fluent speakers as well.
 
More recently, I have had some opportunity to work with Verdena Parker who is a fantastic Hupa speaker.
 
I have also learned much (the most?) from Victor Golla, the top Hupa linguist.
 
I teach Hupa Language I in the high school.  Students can take Hupa all 4 years of school.  The courses satisfy the University of California "foreign language" requirement as long as two years are taken.
 
Our school also offers language classes in two non-Athabascan native languages Yurok and Karuk.  Spanish is also offered.
 
There are about 250 students in the school, with probably 50 or so taking Hupa Language.  The school is about 75% Native American with most students Hupa, Yurok and/or Karuk.
 
I am fascinated with learning Hupa and also with other learning how other Athabascan languages relate to Hupa.
