Bush & Identity/Persona

Hello everyone,

My name is Patrick, a recent join, and I had a question for you. I'm
doing study on language & identity and am interested in political
language in particular. I am looking at some of George W. Bush's
speeches and public appearances right now.

I'm interested in how the conception of "President Bush" that is
constituted in his speeches/talks affects his rhetorical/political
goals, and how he represents other actors/groups (the terrorists,
seniors, etc.).

Do you have any suggestions of good papers you've read that might be
relevant or directions to follow you would expect to be especially
fruitful? I have been exposed to some papers in CDA while rummaging
through collections and I was impressed (van Dijk 1993 and some
chapters of Texts and Practices, ed. Coulthard and Coulthard).

Also, have any of you used/read anything from the journal Language and
Politics? By the title it seems like it would be relevant, but our
university doesn't subscribe and before I ask for an interlibrary loan
it would be great to know if it's junk or not (in general).

I wish you all a nice day, and I thank you for any help you have to offer!

Patrick Callier
