> The study of Irish English has seen new developments which hinge on the availability of new technologies and new ways of analysing data. New insights into sociophonetic variation are beginning to become available through the use of instrumentation, and the compilation of new and diverse corpora of Irish English has enabled research on a wide variety of new topics in the field. The aim of this workshop is to assess both methodological and linguistic questions which arise from the use of corpora in the study of Irish varieties of English. One of the goals of the workshop is to establish an inventory of types of corpora, their accessibility, their degree of development, and the types of data they cover. Another goal is to examine the particular insights which corpus-based methods can contribute to the understanding of Irish English, either by providing new answers to old questions or by posing new lines of investigation. A third goal is to contribute to the development of new c!
> orpus-based resources for Irish English, by examining ways of interlinking corpora to allow for more comprehensive analysis across a range of data types and by exploring methodological issues such as corpus accessibility, the updating of corpora, corpus presentation, and ethical issues associated with linguistic corpora. The workshop will thus be of interest not only to those who specialise in research on Irish English and other varieties of English, but to corpus linguists and others who work with corpora in the analysis of language variation.
