Dear Brian,
Thanks for the prompt response.

Yes, I had tried first of all to use the -s switch (for example, -s"\@wp") to pick out all those words/strings marked with @ when doing searches and counts but it didn't work.

Also in the %gra line there doesn't seem to be any differentiation made  - for instance in the example below, the %more line indicates wplay but the %gra doesn't -   so all forms like those I wish to exclude are parsed as ROOT and then would I have to go through manually to find & exclude them?

*MOT:  ah^ba^ba^ba^ba at wp .
%mor:   wplay|ahbabababa .
%gra:     1|0|ROOT 2|1|PUNCT

     Ideally, it should not be necessary to modify MOR to exclude particular parts of speech.  Instead, you should be able to exclude them when you run searches on the finished version of the %mor line (or the %gra line).  Can't you just run things that way?
