Dear Colleagues,
I am training my student research assistant on learning Childes and we
notice that there might be a small problem on Browsable Database. I
just want to check if this is a problem that other colleagues also
have or just a problem related to my computers.
When we wanted to check the content of one file, say Eve01.cha of
Brown corpus "http://childes.psy.cmu.edu/browser/index.php?url=Eng-USA/Brown/Eve/eve01.cha",
we followed the path and could get it without any problem. But strange
things occurred after we got there. We want to switch to another file
also under the folder Eve, so we clicked the link of eve02.cha under
the left column. But the content of the file fail to be loaded, and a
error message was displayed as following:
0 @Loc: Eng-USA/Brown/Eve/eve01.chaeve02.cha
1 <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
2 <html><head>
3 <title>404 Not Found</title>
4 </head><body>
5 <h1>Not Found</h1>
6 <p>The requested URL /data-orig/Eng-USA/Brown/Eve/eve01.chaeve02.cha
was not found on this server.</p>
7 </body></html>
The only way we can reach eve02.cha is to click the folder "Eve" on
the left column first, and then click the link for eve02.cha (so two
clicks). I checked it with IE and Firefox on three different computers
with windows XP or Windows 7. So I guess it could be a problem on the
server side (say some thing wrong on php script), but I am not sure.
What I am sure is the problem did not exist last year when I taught my
class Childes. I know it is only a difference between two clicks and
one click, but I still want to bring it into your attention.
Thanks!
Best wishes,
Xiaowei
