Dear collegues,

We are in position to buy a digital camera for our child language
acquisition projects which include recordings of spontaneous children
production as well as experiments with prerecorded video settings with small
toys.

Could any of you suggest a digital camera that would properly serve our
needs:

- fair quality of digital speech recording in natural setting of
homes and kindergardens

- fair quality of digital video recording in rather low-light
natural setting of homes and kindergardens

- fair quality of optical zoom for the purpose of small-distance
recording of small toys (for experimental studies)

About two years ago we had an opportunity to use the Canon Legria HF M31
for the purpose of recording small toys, and it showed rather good quality
of optical zoom, which was lacked by other home cameras that we tried. But
we did not try it for recording of speech, so we do not know how is it in
audio recording tasks.

I would appreciate very much any comments from those who used this model.
Or, if you could suggest any other model that you used recently and had a
good experience with, it would be most appreciated.

The price is not crucial, first let us see what we should search for.

Many thanks,
