+g switch to find all forms of a verb

I tried "looking for all the forms of the verb kick except the ing form" as
per the suggestion in the manual (i.e. “kick*^! ^!ing” and the +g switch)
just to try it out. However, an error comes up: "invalid argument for
option: +g". What is wrong with the command below?
combo +s"kick*^! ^!ing" +g .*cha
