changes in participle tags

Dear CHIBolts,
Yesterday we changed two of the tags in English MOR to correspond more correctly to proper linguistic analysis. Specifically, we changed PROG (Progressive) to PRESP (Present Participle -ing) and PERF (Perfective) to PASTP (Past Participle -ed and -en). This reflects more accurately the fact that morphemes form participles, not tenses. Moreover, they appear on adjectives, gerunds, participles, and the past tense. In a sense this is a cosmetic change. However, it is a cosmetic change that impacts the names used by the MOR, EVAL, DSS, and KIDEVAL programs. So, we have now updated CLAN, MOR, the manual, and all related files to use the two new forms. If you run new analyses using DSS, EVAL, or KIDEVAL, you should either do a global replacement of -PROG to -PRESP and PERF (both &PERF and -PERF) to PASTP (both &PASTP and -PASTP) or else rerun MOR. If you are not running any new analyses using DSS, EVAL, or KIDEVAL, you don’t need to change anything. We are now applying these changes to the English files on the web with MOR and that work should be done by tomorrow.
We try to keep such changes to a minimum, but this was one that needed to be done.
Best regards,
—Brian MacWhinney
