Just a little bit more on "kinnikinnik".  Ukuk chaku khapa Emanuel
Drechsel ya bUk "Mobilian Jargon:  Linguistic and Sociohistorical Aspects
of a Native American Pidgin" (Oxford:  Clarendon, 1997), tIpsu 237-8:

	"In 1849, the ethnologist William Bollaert ... reported that Lipan
	Apache (Athapaskans) conversed in "Lipan-Hispano-English" with
	Texans ... [including Mobilian Jargon as an element] in a list of
	other alleged Lipan words, including one of apparent Algonquian
	origin, "kin-i-ki-nik" to refer to tobacco mixed with sumac...."

Eastern Texas was the home of the Lipan, as Drechsel notes.  It is
interesting to note the wide range of occurrences of Algonquian loanwords
in North America; there are several apparently in Mobilian (southeast
USA), including some which ChInuk Wawa has.
