I concur heartily with Robert Moore's endorsement of <Handbook of North
American Indians> Volume 7, Northwest Coast. It's a terrific resource. I
think it might be found at a special price upon occasion. A friend gave me a
copy as a gift two or three years ago and said he'd found them at Munro's in
Victoria at such a reasonable price that he bought up a few for friends he
knew would appreciate them.

Brett Rushforth's comment that > nothing is more fundamental to
understanding a people than their food< is well-taken. I've found Thompson
Ethnobotany: Knowledge and Usage and Plants by the Thompson Indians of
British Columbia by Nancy Turner, Laurence Thompson, Terry Thompson with
Nlaka'pamux elder Annie York to be invaluable.
