LhaXayEm!

There is a completely fascinating-looking conference that will be
occurring in the Portland-Vancouver area next week, the Rupert's Land
Colloquium 2000.

Papers will be presented in sessions on:
-The Fur Trade Comes to the Columbia
	-Reflections on Metis Identity
	-Voyages of Discovery
	-Forts
	-Documenting the Trade
	-Fur Trade Connections
-an afternoon trip to Fort Vancouver
	-Native People and the Trade
	-afternoon trip to French Prairie
-historical journey to the mouth of the Columbia (Cape
Disappointment, Fort Clatsop, Fort Astoria, Columbia River
	Maritime Museum)

The list of papers to be presented is pretty extensive. These and their
authors can be found on the website of the Centre for Rupert's Land
Studies. Would one of you with more computer capabilities like to go to
the website and send a copy of this information to CHINOOK? The exact
dates and locations would be good to post to this list as well.

I strongly wish I could attend this conference, for the Metis and Native
sessions as well as for all of the background information that will be
presented.

Best wishes, and thanks to Jack,
Dave
